Informational interviews with registered nurses
Considered to work as nurses? This interview will take you through the ups and downs that you can expect in the situation, what it takes to get a job, what can you expect to get and more.
I am a registered nurse (RN) with 35 years experience in the field. When I started back in the 1970s, school nurses are generally not those of the hospital run programs, which is exactly what I did. I worked as a nursing assistant while completing my training RN. These days, the program has evolved largely in college, and they take much longer. In addition, most of my younger colleagues tell me they had to sit on waiting lists for years before being admitted.
I became a nurse because I am compassionate. My emotional nature is very useful because it helps with my bedside manner. But it also leads me crazy sometimes, the more attached to the patient and then lose them. I’ve been away from the field of more than a few times, and took off work to be so pathetic. However, I am very motivated to help patients that I always come back.
As a white woman, I could benefit in some way in my area because so many people automatically picture of white women when they think “nurse”. But in another sense, it really hurt me in my career. Being a nurse of the dialysis, I ran into scrapes with male administrators, for example, which sometimes seem to think that women are not able leader. I tried to ignore these things and do our best to make work on the patient and nothing else.
In the end, that’s really what nursing is all for me. We learn to focus more on patient care of a physician. Doctors in the emergency room or clinic is so tight for a while, they seem to be moving all day. I liked that I could learn a little patience as a person and not just as a chart on the board. This is indeed what makes my job so great. On a scale of 1 to 10, which makes the patient care aspects of care that is 10 because it allows me to work on behalf of the patient in everything I do.
